live broadcast sound collage

From 2002 until his death in 2014, Frank Sumption built 180 frequency sweep radios in the AM, FM, and SW radio bands.  Each radio is unique and designed to scan the radio spectrum in variable patterns and speeds without squelching the white noise between signals.  Using his knowledge as a HAM radio operator and inspired by research into Electronic Voice Phenomenon, instrumental transcommunication, and employing what he described as “telepathic guidance,” Frank sought to provide entities from beyond our corporeal dimension with the raw matériel necessary to communicate with him. The message Frank received: he was an alien princess from the Pleiades.

Frank did not sell his radios. He did not attempt dialog or interrogate the entities that spoke to him from his boxes. He was not a ghost hunter, though some type of frequency sweep radio is the foundation of modern-day ghost hunting kits.

Frank was the founder and moderator for the Yahoo! EVP and ITC discussion group for many years. In his posts he rarely references “ghosts” or “spirits,” using the terms “Others" and “entities” to describe those whose communications his radios would capture.

Frank was not shy about expressing his opinions regarding the use of his invention by the ghost hunting community.  In Frank’s own words, “I don’t need this crap, I do this ‘research’ for my own curiosity, and I still believe it was a mistake – a huge mistake – to share the box idea. Humanity has no clue how to use it, what it’s for, and it ain’t to make one rich and famous…  That’s enough for me, let these crackheads go ahead a claim all these things paranormal and I can walk away! I’m outta here, these loony toon fucks can have it!”

Tonight’s program will focus on recordings of box numbers: 2, 13, 27, 29, 30, 36, 39, 50, 60, 63, 78, 90, 94, 107, 128, 150, 159, and 180.
